Warriors 'emotionally prepared' for Klay Thompson to leave, according to Zack Lowe – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

Tensions are rising between Klay Thompson and the Warriors with NBA free agency on the horizon.

While both parties now understand that this is all part of business, there is an emotional aspect that may be a factor in the looming decision.

Those emotions seem palpable to ESPN's Zach Lowe, who believes the two sides are parting ways.

« It sounds like they're emotionally ready for the opportunity, » Lowe said on « Wake Up » Wednesday morning. « I think there's some hurt feelings on both sides for this reunion to happen. We're going to know a lot on Friday. June 20 is the deadline for Chris Paul's contract to be $30 million guaranteed. Or the Warriors have to waive him. It's hard to keep this whole team together.

« They don't want to pay this huge tax break to a team that's struggling to get to the playoffs. And Klay, everybody needs shooting, he'll fit in anywhere. As of now, Thompson and the Warriors have yet to agree on a contract extension and the five-time NBA All-Star is set to hit the open market Sunday night.

Multiple reports indicate that Thompson is seeking at least a three-year deal, which the Warriors have yet to offer. Golden State reportedly offered the sharpshooter a two-year deal before free agency, but it appears Thompson will test the waters with other teams.

Thompson was drafted by Golden State in 2011 and spent his entire career in the Bay Area, helping the Warriors win four NBA titles.

All emotions are understandable, but nothing is permanent.

« Romantically, my romantic soul wants these three guys to play together forever, » Lowe said. « We don't always get what we want. »
